The fire has been kindled

Fuel the Fire is over.

Sad? I know. Me too. But mostly I’m elated. The day of the conference was action-packed and full of emerging leaders. Here are the top three most popular comments I’ve received since the conference:

1. “Lunch was awesome!” – Each conference participant was matched with a Concordia alumni for a round table discussion. They shared the story of their career since graduation, answered questions from students, and networked. I heard the table with Ted Horan, owner of Erbert & Gerbert’s, even gave out FREE SANDWICH coupons. Score.

2. “I learned stuff.” – Someone told me that the only reason he registered was because an organization mandated his attendance. But by the end of the day, he wasn’t sure why he didn’t WANT to go in the first place. “I thought it was going to be boring sessions, but I actually learned stuff and had fun,” he said.

3. “When’s the next LeadNow session?” - After the conference, people were on fire for leadership and couldn’t wait to dive in to more development. I can’t wait for that, either. Want the schedule? It’s right HERE.

TWO DAYS UNTIL FUEL THE FIRE!

The LeadNow staff and the STREET Team has been working hard to bring you the BEST Fuel the Fire Conference yet. Close to 300 students are about to have the BEST SATURDAY OF THEIR SEMESTERS.

The theme of the day is that, let’s face it, all, LIFE IS NOT LINEAR! We all make choices, meet people, and have new ideas that lead us down paths we never imagined we’d be on. Leadership is like that, too. Situations come up where you are forced to challenge yourself in new ways, things happen that help you realize your natural talents, and sometimes, opportunities present themselves when you least expected.

Your journey as a leader, and ultimately, a person, doesn’t have to follow a straight line.

The STREET Team is counting down until Saturday, January 21st. We’ve got an exciting four-member panel to kick off the day, interactive sessions before and after lunch, and round table discussions with a CC alum that works in a professional field that YOU are interested in.

This flaming advertisement was created by STREET Team member, Meagan McDougal. In event planning, it’s crazy how one advertisement is responsible for so much. It should be flashy enough to catch the eyes of anyone who walks by, but simple enough to convey the important W’s quickly. Meagan accomplished both with this ad. The Art of Living

I’m a huge lover of TOMS Shoes. I first read this quote on a the blog of Blake Mycoskie, the company’s founder. In 2006 after he traveled to Argentina, Blake realized the huge need for children to have shoes so they can go to school and avoid infection. He devoted his life to building TOMS into one of the most popular, hip companies in the world. Under a one-for-one business model, TOMS gives away a pair of shoes for every pair they sell.

That’s leadership.

Let’s make our work playful, too, and see what we can accomplish.

The STREET Team is up and running! We had a kick-off meeting to get to know each other, and talk about some initial publicity ideas for Fuel the Fire. It’s exciting! Nine fantastic members will work together throughout November and December to spread the word out on the streets of campus. Fuel the Fire is going to be bigger and better than ever.

Welcome

If you made it this far, it means you’re on the right track! What track is that? The one that takes you to the LeadNow® Fuel the Fire Conference 2012.

Join us on Saturday, January 21st as hundreds of Concordia College students amp up their leadership capacity at this one day leadership conference.

What will we do? 

Attend interactive sessions. Learn about on-campus leadership opportunities. Hear an energetic keynote  speaker. Eat breakfast and lunch. Meet other Concordia leaders. Have a blast.

Who is eligible to come?

Any current Concordia College student.

Where is this happening?

The Centrum, among other places on campus.

When should I get there and when will I have to leave?

We start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.
